Luohe is a prefecture-level city in central Henan, on the Beijing-Guangzhou rail corridor between Xuchang to the north and Zhumadian to the south. It is the home town of Xu Shen (Han dynasty), compiler of the Shuowen Jiezi, the first systematic Chinese character dictionary, and the city promotes Chinese-character culture at the AAAA-rated Xu Shen Cultural Park. It also holds the 9,000-year-old Jiahu Neolithic site in Wuyang County, the Sui-era Xiaoshang Bridge in Linying County, the riverfront Shali River Scenic Area and the Heshang Street old-town quarter. Luohe is known in China as a food-industry city and is the base of the Shuanghui (WH Group) meat-processing business.

High-speed rail
Luohe West station (漯河西站, Changjiang Road area, Yuanhui District) is on the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed line; G trains connect to Zhengzhou, Xuchang, Zhumadian, Wuhan and Beijing. Book on the 12306 app or Trip.com and carry a passport for the ticket gates.
Cost: Fares vary by train; Zhengzhou-bound second class is typically ¥60-100 (~$9-15)
