Huangguoshu Waterfall, in the Huangguoshu Scenic Area of Zhenning County, Anshun, Guizhou, drops about 77 metres across a broad curtain of water into the Rhinoceros Pool below, and it ranks among the largest waterfalls in Asia. Huangguoshu Waterfall, in the Huangguoshu Scenic Area of Zhenning County, Anshun, Guizhou, drops about 77 metres across a broad curtain of water into the Rhinoceros Pool below, and it ranks among the largest waterfalls in Asia. The main viewing platform sits opposite the falls and frames the full curtain with spray rising from the pool and green cliffs on both sides. A second frame is from behind the curtain, along the Water Curtain Cave path, where the water appears as a moving veil in front of the lens. Light is best in the morning, when the sun angle lights the spray and can produce rainbows over the pool on sunny days; by afternoon the angle changes and the spray looks greyer. The falls are strongest from July to September in the rainy season, with the heaviest flow and loudest sound, while spring brings lower crowds and calmer water. Overcast days give even light for long exposures. The scenic area is one of the most visited in Guizhou, and the main platform fills quickly with tour groups, especially in summer and national holidays. Arriving at opening time provides the best chance of a rail position; shooting from the edges of the platform avoids the middle crowds. Tripods are usually accepted but can be awkward in a crowded space, and drone flights are restricted in the scenic area. An entry ticket applies, and extra fees for the sightseeing shuttle should be confirmed on site. Spray soaks equipment quickly, so a waterproof cover and microfibre cloth are essential, and neutral density filters allow silky exposures when light is bright.
