Huangguoshu Waterfall Pool

Huangguoshu Waterfall Pool is the plunge pool at the base of the main Huangguoshu Waterfall in Zhenning County, Anshun, Guizhou province, China. It is a viewing site, not a swimming beach: swimming is prohibited, and visitors stand on marked platforms close to the spray. The water in the pool is churned white and green by the falling water, and the colour changes with rainfall, often turning more turbid and powerful in the wet summer season. The setting is a deep, spray-filled basin beneath a wide curtain of water, with constant mist and a loud roar. Exposure to spray is significant, so visitors are often soaked at the nearest platforms. The atmosphere is that of one of the best-known natural attractions in Guizhou, with tour groups, families and photographers sharing viewpoints. Amenities include a viewing platform, the Water Curtain Cave behind the falls and toilets; there are no sun loungers or lifeguards because the area is not used for bathing. Access is through the Huangguoshu scenic area, reached by bus or taxi from Anshun, with internal paths and shuttles linking the main falls to nearby sights. The walk from the entrance to the pool involves stairs and a descent, and the return climb can be tiring in hot weather. The best season is July to September, when water volume is at its peak and the cascade is most dramatic, although crowds also peak at that time. Visitors should arrive early to reduce queues, bring a rain jacket or poncho for the spray, and protect cameras and phones from moisture. Slippery steps and wet rock make footwear with good grip important.
