Langde Upper Miao Village (Shang Langde) lies in Leishan County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou, about 40 minutes by road from the county town. It is among the better-preserved Miao settlements in the region, with timber stilted houses that cluster along a stream and a stone-paved main lane. The village is best known for its gate welcome ceremony: Miao women in silver headdresses and embroidered costume line the entrance, offer rice wine from drinking horns and sing a toast before guests are led in. A stone-paved path leads past a small performance stage where song-and-dance shows are held, a drum-tower style gathering space and workshops that sell batik, silver and embroidery. A river runs through the valley below the houses, and a wooden bridge crosses to terraced fields that offer short walks. Visitors generally spend two to three hours, enough for the welcome ceremony, the performance and a stroll through the lanes with a stop for a meal of local dishes such as sour soup. Compared with the larger and busier Xijiang village, Langde is smaller and more intimate, and the village's people are more visibly involved in daily farming life. Crowds peak at Chinese holidays and in summer, when tour buses arrive from Kaili, and mornings are generally the calmest period. Photographers tend to favour the gate scene in soft morning light and the view across the roofs from the terraces above the main lane. Respectful behaviour is expected: visitors should ask before photographing residents and avoid entering private homes without invitation. Kaili is the usual base, with onward buses to Leishan and then taxis to the village.
