Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is home to China's largest ethnic minority, the Zhuang, alongside significant Yao, Miao, and Dong populations. Famous worldwide for the karst peaks of Guilin and Yangshuo along the Li River, the terraced hillsides of Longji, and the thundering cross-border Detian Waterfall, Guangxi also holds a stretch of tropical coastline on the Gulf of Tonkin at Beihai and Weizhou Island. Its subtropical scenery, minority culture, and relative affordability make it one of southern China's most rewarding travel regions.
Guangxi has a humid subtropical climate with hot, wet summers and mild, relatively dry winters. Nanning and the southern lowlands rarely see frost, while Guilin and the northern hill country experience cooler winter mornings. The rainy season runs roughly April through September, concentrated in heavy summer downpours, and the Beibu Gulf coast around Beihai is occasionally affected by typhoons in late summer.

Summer

Hot, humid, and the wettest period of the year. Li River water levels rise and can be muddy after heavy rain. Beihai and Weizhou Island are popular for their beaches despite occasional typhoon activity.
Fall
Months: Sep-Nov
Rainfall eases and skies clear, making this the most reliable season for Li River cruises and karst photography. Longji's rice terraces turn golden ahead of the autumn harvest.
Winter

Mild in Nanning and the south (10-16°C), cooler and occasionally frosty in Guilin and the northern hills. Dry season with fewer crowds and clear river views, though mornings can be foggy.
