Monkey Jane's sits down a narrow alley just off Yangshuo West Street in Guilin's Yangshuo County, a fixture of the town's small but durable expat bar scene. Downstairs hosts nightly live music, usually a rotating cast of local and touring musicians playing rock, blues, and acoustic covers aimed at an English-speaking audience; upstairs is a rowdier, louder room built around beer pong tables and cheap mixed drinks rather than a listening-room vibe. The drinks programme is unfussy -- bottled Chinese lager, simple rum and vodka mixers, and shot specials rather than a crafted cocktail list. Doors typically open in the early evening and the bar runs later on weekends than on weeknights, with the live sets usually starting after dark and the upstairs crowd building toward midnight. There is no cover charge and no reservation system; it is a walk-in venue with no bottle-service culture, in keeping with its alley-bar, backpacker-budget identity.
