Fenghuang Ancient Village sits in Fenghuang Community, Fuyong Subdistrict, in Shenzhen's Bao'an District, Guangdong Province, at the foot of Fenghuang Mountain. It is one of the better-known surviving lineage villages in the western part of Shenzhen, and its history is bound up with the Wen clan, whose members trace descent from the family of Wen Tianxiang, the Southern Song chancellor who resisted the Yuan conquest in the late 13th century. Settlement in the area is generally dated to the Song and Yuan periods, with most of the standing buildings belonging to the Ming and Qing dynasties, when the village prospered through farming and coastal trade in the Pearl River Delta.

The village is organised around a cluster of ancestral halls, study rooms and shrines that follow the typical Cantonese layout of grey-brick walls, tiled roofs, carved stone door frames and plastered ridge decorations. The Wen ancestral hall and the shrine to Wen Tianxiang are the central landmarks, and several smaller halls belong to individual branches of the clan. Interiors hold wooden plaques, couplets and lineage tablets that record clan genealogy and imperial examination success, which was a major source of status for village families. Narrow lanes, old wells and a few remaining courtyard houses show how the settlement was laid out around shared ritual space.

There is no single museum curation here; the village works as an open-air site that is read in the order of its lanes and halls rather than through a fixed chronological route. Interpretive boards in Chinese explain the clan history and the buildings, and some halls are used for exhibitions on local customs, Wen Tianxiang's legacy and Fuyong's past as a fishing and farming district. Visitors who follow the lanes uphill reach the edge of Fenghuang Mountain, where temple sites and hiking paths connect the village to its wider landscape.

Like many Shenzhen villages, Fenghuang has been shaped by rapid urbanisation. High-rise districts and factories surround it, and the old core has been restored in stages by local authorities, with repaired roofs, cleaned stonework and re-laid paving, while some houses remain in residential use. The result is a mix of restored and weathered fabric. The village is free to enter, and the ancestral halls generally keep daytime hours. It rewards visitors interested in Lingnan architecture, clan culture and the older layer of Shenzhen beneath the modern city.
