Nanshan One Tree (Yikeshu) Viewpoint

The Yikeshu (One Tree) viewing platform sits on Nanshan, on the south bank of the Yangtze in Nan'an District, Chongqing, and looks north across the river toward the Yuzhong peninsula, where the Jialing and Yangtze rivers meet beneath the downtown skyline. In daylight the frame is a wide panorama with the peninsula skyline as the subject and the river as foreground; after dark, the same view becomes a dense field of building lights, bridge lights, and reflected color on the water, making it one of Chongqing's signature night-skyline shots. The platform faces roughly north-northwest, so daytime shooting favors morning or overcast light to avoid backlighting the skyline, while the strongest results come at blue hour and into the night, from about 18:00 to 22:00, when the city's lights and the illuminated bridges are fully on but there is still enough ambient sky tone to hold detail. Spring and autumn (March-May, September-November) bring the clearest air and least industrial haze, giving sharper long-range detail than the humid summer months. The platform is popular with tour groups and can be crowded at sunset and immediately after, with limited railing space for tripods, so arriving thirty to forty-five minutes before sunset helps secure a central position. There is a small admission fee to enter the Nanshan Yikeshu viewing area; tripods are permitted, and drones are discouraged given the crowded platform and nearby flight restrictions over the city center.
