Chaotianmen Confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers

Chaotianmen Square sits at the tip of the Yuzhong peninsula in Chongqing, at the exact point where the greenish Jialing River meets the yellow-brown Yangtze River, making it the natural place to photograph the confluence itself as well as the Chaotianmen and Qiansimen bridges that span each river nearby. The daytime frame places the visible color line between the two rivers in the foreground, with passenger ferries and cargo boats crossing it and the far bank rising behind; at night the same vantage becomes a long-exposure subject, with the lit bridges and the Raffles City towers behind the square providing strong vertical anchors. The color contrast between the rivers is strongest in early summer, when the Yangtze carries heavier sediment after upstream rain while the Jialing runs clearer, and it fades in drier months when both rivers run a similar tone. For night shooting, blue hour through the first hours of full dark, roughly 19:00 to 22:00, gives the best balance between the bridge lighting and a dark but not completely black river. Chaotianmen Square is a major tourist and cruise-departure point, so it draws large crowds, especially on weekends and around ferry departure times, and photographers should expect to work around groups rather than expect an empty plaza. The square itself is open and free to enter, tripods are allowed in the public plaza areas, and drone flight over the square and the two bridges is restricted given the dense air and boat traffic.
