Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street is the commercial heart of Yuzhong District, Chongqing, centered on the Liberation Monument, a clock tower originally built in 1947 to commemorate victory in the Second Sino-Japanese War and now surrounded by a dense grid of car-free shopping streets. Visitors entering from Minzu Road move through wide pedestrian boulevards lined with department stores, international fashion brands, electronics retailers and local snack vendors, with the historic clock tower forming a natural gathering point at the district's center. Beyond shopping, the area is a showcase of Chongqing's modern skyline, with tall commercial towers and video screens rising directly above the older monument, creating a visual contrast between the mid-20th-century tower and the surrounding glass high-rises. A visit typically takes two to three hours for casual browsing, longer for dedicated shopping. The best photo vantage point is the plaza immediately around the Liberation Monument itself, especially looking up at the surrounding illuminated towers at night.
