Sofia Grad (Sofia City Province) is the compact capital region of Bulgaria, a 7,000-year-old city at the foot of Vitosha Mountain where Roman ruins, Orthodox domes, Ottoman mosques, Habsburg-style boulevards and Socialist-era monuments sit within a short walk of each other. The province consists of Sofia city and the small village of Lozen, so almost every sight, restaurant and hotel is in the capital itself. Visitors find cheap euro-priced food and drink, a four-line metro, lively cafe and rakia-bar culture, and hiking trails that start inside the city limits.
Accommodation overview
Sofia City Province's accommodation is concentrated in the capital, where most hotels sit within a 15-minute walk of Vitosha Boulevard, Serdika metro station and Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Five-star international brands cluster around Sveta Nedelya Square, Narodno Sabranie Square and Bulgaria Boulevard, while boutique hotels, budget hotels and hostels fill the streets between Hristo Botev Boulevard and Maria Luiza Boulevard. Prices are noticeably lower than in most Western European capitals, and the euro has been the currency since 1 January 2026. The village of Lozen on the southeastern edge of the province has no mainstream hotel cluster, so visitors generally base themselves in the city.

Check rates on Booking.comBooking tips
Get the best deals and avoid common mistakes.
Book 4-8 weeks ahead for May to September and for December holiday dates, when central rooms fill and rates rise.
Rates drop on weekends at business-oriented five-star hotels and rise during trade fairs and football matches near Vasil Levski Stadium.
Choose a hotel within a few minutes of a metro station; Serdika, Sofia University and NDK stations connect to the airport on Line 1 and Line 4.
Confirm whether the quoted price includes the city tourist tax and breakfast, which vary by property.
Request rooms facing away from tram lines and nightlife streets such as Solunska if light sleep matters.
Check parking availability before driving in; central streets use paid blue and green zone parking and few budget hotels have garages.
