The Simeonovo gondola and Aleko ridge walk is the lowest-effort way to reach high-mountain scenery on Vitosha, Sofia's mountain in Bulgaria. The route starts at the lower gondola station in the Simeonovo district, about 25 minutes by taxi from the city centre, or by city bus to Simeonovo (routes listed on sofiatraffic.bg). Parking is available near the lower station.

The gondola climbs to the Aleko area at around 1,810 m inside Vitosha Nature Park, so the lift does nearly all the climbing and no permit is required for the walk.

At the top, an easy ridge walk of about 3 km takes 1.5-2 hours at an unhurried pace. Elevation change is minimal, well within the easy category, and the paths are well worn and waymarked. The surface is a mix of gravel service tracks, packed earth and short stony stretches. Above the tree line there is little shade and strong sun and wind exposure, so sun protection and a windproof layer are important, even in summer when Sofia below can be hot.

Key landmarks include the Aleko ski area with its huts and chalets, and open meadows and rocky outcrops along the ridge, which give views over Sofia and across to the Lyulin and Rila ranges on clear days. Walkers can stroll as far as time and energy allow and turn back at any point, returning to the upper gondola station to descend. Those wanting more can connect onto the Cherni Vrah trail, which adds about 480 m of climbing and is a separate route.

Huts and cafes around the top station sell food, hot drinks and water, so food and refreshments are not a concern. Visitors should check the gondola timetable before ascending, since operating hours and maintenance closures vary by season and weather, and wind can pause service. Missing the last descent means a long walk or taxi from Aleko. In winter the same area becomes a ski resort and the ridge is covered with snow.
