Praia Vermelha do Norte, Ubatuba

Praia Vermelha do Norte is a sheltered cove beach in Ubatuba, at the northern end of the São Paulo litoral norte, named for the reddish tone of the sand and rock along parts of the shore. The cove shape and surrounding headlands keep the water calm and clear for much of the year, making it one of Ubatuba's better swimming beaches rather than a surf spot, with a shallow shelf that suits relaxed bathing over long stretches of tide. Beach kiosks line the back of the sand, offering food, drinks, and rental of sunbeds and umbrellas, and a separate stand rents surf and stand-up paddle equipment for those who want to explore the calmer bay waters. The beach is modest in size compared to Ubatuba's larger strands like Itamambuca, giving it a more intimate, cove-like atmosphere that appeals to families and couples looking for calmer water. Reaching it from São Paulo city takes a bus of roughly four to five hours from the Tietê terminal to Ubatuba, followed by a short local bus or taxi ride to the beach.
