Barra do Una

Barra do Una is a secluded cove where the Rio Una meets the sea in the Boracéia area of São Sebastião, on the São Paulo litoral norte, bordered by the buffer zone of the Serra do Mar State Park. The sand is coarse and golden, framed by dense forested hillside that drops almost to the waterline, and the river mouth creates a calm, warm lagoon-like pool that contrasts with the open ocean surf just beyond the sandbar. The beach itself is short, sheltered in a tight cove shape, and largely undeveloped, with no permanent kiosks, sunbed rental, or lifeguard presence; a handful of informal vendors set up snack and drink stands only on busy weekends. The atmosphere is quiet and low-key rather than a party scene, popular with hikers, campers, and those seeking a getaway from the more built-up beaches of Maresias or Guarujá. Access is part of the appeal and the challenge: visitors drive the Rodovia Rio-Santos highway to the Boracéia turnoff, then either walk roughly forty minutes along a coastal trail through the state park buffer zone or arrange a short boat crossing from Boracéia village. There is no paved road directly to Barra do Una and no formal parking lot, so most visitors leave cars in Boracéia and continue on foot or by boat.
