Morro de São Paulo is Bahia's most popular island day trip from Salvador — a car-free tropical paradise on Tinharé Island with four beautiful numbered beaches, crystal-clear warm water, excellent seafood restaurants, and a ruined Portuguese fort with panoramic views. The beaches progress from the lively, restaurant-lined Segunda Praia to the tranquil, palm-fringed Quarta Praia. Although technically a day trip is possible (arriving by speedboat at 9am, returning at 5pm), the island is far better enjoyed as a 2-3 night stay. An environmental tax of R$19 is collected upon arrival.

Highlights

  • Four beautiful beaches
  • Portuguese fort ruins with views
  • Fresh seafood restaurants
  • Crystal clear water
  • Car-free island atmosphere

Tips

  • Book speedboat tickets in advance during high season (December-February)
  • Staying overnight allows you to experience the evening beach scene and see the island without day-tripper crowds
  • The tractor-taxi between beaches costs R$15-25 and saves a long walk in the heat
