Belgium's premier rock climbing destination, a 2km stretch of limestone cliffs rising 50–80m above the Meuse river. Freyr has over 800 routes from grade 3 to 8c, making it suitable for beginners through elite climbers. The Château de Freyr at the cliff base adds a dramatic backdrop. The compact, hard Meuse limestone is ideal for sport climbing.

Equipment: Bring own equipment or rent through guide services. Helmet, harness, and climbing shoes minimum. First-time climbers book a guided introduction session.

Tips

  • The classic beginner sector is on the left side of the cliff (Le Plateau) with grade 3–5 routes. Weekends in summer are busy — arrive early for the best routes. Camping is available near Hastière.
