Cassia Cottage

Cassia Cottage is a small boutique hotel at 28 Nguyen Cong Tru Street in Hue, in a residential neighbourhood on the south bank of the Perfume River. The Truong Tien Bridge is approximately 700 metres east, and the Imperial Citadel lies 1.8 kilometres to the north. Thien Mu Pagoda — Hue's most photographed historical landmark — is reachable by bicycle along the river road in under 20 minutes. The surrounding streets include several of Hue's better-regarded local restaurants, and Le Loi Boulevard connecting to the riverside walking path is a short walk away.

The property takes its name from the cassia tree — a Vietnamese cinnamon species — and the garden surrounding the main building is the defining feature of the stay. Mature trees and planted beds frame the outdoor breakfast terrace and create a degree of seclusion unusual in central Hue's residential fabric. The building follows traditional Vietnamese urban house architecture: a narrow floor plan facing onto the garden, with wooden latticework screens, terracotta roof tiles, and a ground-floor veranda along the street facade.

Twelve rooms are distributed across two floors. Superior rooms look directly onto the garden. All rooms are individually decorated with wooden furniture, local textiles, and ceramic accents. Air-conditioning, flat-screen televisions, and private hot-water bathrooms are standard across all categories. The intimate scale of the property produces an atmosphere closer to a guesthouse than a conventional hotel.

The restaurant serves Vietnamese cuisine with emphasis on Hue royal court dishes — a ceremonially presented, highly spiced tradition distinct from the cooking of Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Breakfast is a particular draw, with options including bun bo Hue (the city's characteristic beef noodle soup) and banh mi alongside fruit and eggs. Cooking classes covering royal Hue recipes are organised on request, typically combined with a morning visit to the Dong Ba Market.

A fleet of bicycles is available for guest hire, and the compact geography of central Hue makes cycling the most practical way to cover the main temple, tomb, and pagoda circuit. The tour desk arranges Perfume River boat trips and transport to the royal tombs 5 to 7 kilometres south of the city.
