InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort

InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort occupies a private cove on the northern face of the Son Tra Peninsula, approximately 12 kilometres from Da Nang city centre via the Son Tra Nature Reserve road. The peninsula is a protected forest area, and the resort's Bai Bac cove position means no neighbouring development is visible from the property. The site descends steeply from the nature reserve road to the water, and the resort's internal cable car system — spanning roughly 200 vertical metres through dense jungle canopy — serves as both access route and arrival centrepiece.

The resort was designed by Bangkok-based architect Bill Bensley, who conceived a multi-level cascade of villas, restaurants, and public spaces descending the cliff face from reception to beach. The design draws simultaneously on ancient Greek coastal architecture and Southeast Asian temple forms, producing a layered vocabulary of archways, mosaic tile floors, and carved stonework throughout the property. The complex opened in 2012 and received multiple architectural and design awards.

Guest accommodation consists of suites and villas arranged across five tiers on the cliff face at different elevations. Lower-tier villas open directly onto the private beach. Rooms at higher elevations offer elevated ocean views but require more movement — via stairs, lifts, or the cable car — to reach the sand and main pool. All rooms feature large terraces, and most include private plunge pools. Interior detailing carries the Greek-meets-Asian design language consistently from the public areas into each room.

Four dining venues span from the cliff top to the beachfront. CITRON at the summit serves Vietnamese cuisine with panoramic bay views. Barefoot by Thomas Robson on the beach focuses on grilled seafood. LA MAISON 1888, drawing on the influence of Michel Roux OBE, operates evenings as the resort's fine dining tasting restaurant. ROCKS handles poolside casual dining and cocktails.

A spa complex includes fifteen treatment rooms and an open-air hydrotherapy area with jungle and ocean views. Water sports — kayaking, snorkelling, and stand-up paddleboarding — operate from the beachfront. The Son Tra Nature Reserve surrounding the resort supports a population of the rare red-shanked douc langur primate, and early-morning nature walks into the reserve can be arranged. The property is suited to couples and luxury travellers for whom architectural distinction and coastal seclusion are primary requirements.
