Tashkent is the capital and largest city of Uzbekistan, a green, modern Central Asian metropolis with a medieval Old City, Soviet-era monuments, a space-themed metro and some of the best plov in the world. It is the usual arrival point for the Silk Road cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.
Tashkent's nightlife is more restaurant-and-lounge than club-driven. Evenings centre on Broadway (Sayilgoh Street), the lit-up Amir Timur Square fountains, and hotel bars and rooftops on Amir Temur Avenue and Sharof Rashidov Street. A handful of nightclubs run on weekends, and some places stay open until the early hours. Alcohol is legal and sold in bars and restaurants; the city is quieter and more conservative than most European capitals.
Low-key, lounge-led and hotel-centred, with a small club scene on weekends.
