Alma Histórica Boutique Hotel operates from a carefully restored 1920s neoclassical townhouse on Treinta y Tres in Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo's colonial old town. The address places guests at the cultural heart of the city: the Mercado del Puerto, Montevideo's celebrated iron-and-glass market housing some of the country's best parrillas, is a five-minute walk; Plaza Zabala, flanked by colonial-era buildings and an ornate fountain, is directly adjacent; and the waterfront rambla is reachable in ten minutes on foot.

The hotel holds just 11 rooms, each individually furnished with antique pieces sourced from Uruguayan dealers, original oil paintings on loan from local artists, and period-correct architectural details. Rooms vary from compact singles with queen beds to more generous junior suites with sitting areas; all include private en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, fast Wi-Fi, and quality bed linen. The building's original floor tiles, wrought-iron balustrades, and exposed brick walls have been retained and are central to the property's character rather than being cosmetically patched.

A rooftop terrace at the top of the townhouse looks out over the colonial roofscape of Ciudad Vieja toward the port cranes and the river beyond — one of the better urban viewpoints in the neighborhood. Breakfast is served on the rooftop on fine mornings and in the ground-floor common room during cooler weather. The kitchen produces fresh fruit, pastries sourced from a nearby bakery, cold cuts, cheese, and eggs.

The hotel does not operate a restaurant or bar beyond breakfast, but the immediate neighborhood supports an excellent selection of independent wine bars, cultural venues hosting candombe music, and arts-focused cafés. The owners manage the property themselves, which produces a level of personalized local knowledge and attention that larger hotels cannot replicate.
