NASCAR Hall of Fame

The NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, North Carolina is a 150,000-square-foot museum dedicated to the history, heroes, and science of stock car racing — the motorsport born in the American South and elevated to a national phenomenon. Charlotte's location at the center of NASCAR country, with more than a dozen race shops and two major oval tracks within an hour's drive, makes it the natural home for the institution. The museum opened in 2010 and inducts five new members annually; more than 50 legends are now enshrined including Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, and Jeff Gordon. Interactive exhibits let visitors sit inside stock car cockpits, operate a pit-stop simulation station, and experience the physics of high-speed drafting through motion simulators. The Glory Road display features 18 historically significant race cars arranged on a banked curved surface replicating a superspeedway turn, creating one of the most visually striking presentations in American sports museums. The Hall of Honor — where inducted legends are permanently recognized — occupies the building's centerpiece atrium. The museum connects via covered walkway to the Charlotte Convention Center and sits within easy reach of the LYNX light rail Stonewall Station, 0.3 miles away. Special programming around race weekends at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and October draws themed events and larger-than-usual crowds to the museum.
