Blind Tiger Brewery & Restaurant

Blind Tiger Brewery and Restaurant is Topeka's oldest craft brewery, operating at 417 SW 37th Street since 1994 and holding the distinction of being one of the pioneering craft brewing operations in Kansas. The brewery produces handcrafted ales and lagers on-site, ranging from approachable American styles to seasonal and experimental releases, with the full tap lineup visible from the bar and production areas open for viewing. The name references the blind tiger, a Prohibition-era term for an illegal drinking establishment — an appropriate nod for a brewery in Kansas, which remained dry for much of the twentieth century. The food menu is a full American kitchen rather than a token bar menu: a Prairie Fire burger built with house-made chilli, beer-battered onion rings with a signature seasoning blend, brisket sandwiches slow-cooked in the style of the adjacent Kansas City barbecue tradition, and a rotating selection of pub classics executed with care. The house-brewed ales and lagers are designed to pair with the food program, and the kitchen references the beer in multiple preparations. The dining room spans two levels with a main floor bar area and an upper level more suited to dining groups; the building retains original exposed brick and industrial elements from the 1990s build-out. Blind Tiger has been a civic anchor in Topeka's south side since opening, attracting university students, state government workers from the nearby capitol district, and travellers stopping in Topeka along the I-70 corridor.
