Green Olive Cafe (Buford Highway Strip)

Buford Highway is Atlanta's most culturally significant dining corridor — a stretch of road running northeast from the city's Buckhead neighbourhood through Chamblee and Doraville that hosts the largest concentration of international restaurants in the American Southeast. The stretch from Interstate 285 north through Doraville represents over eighty distinct ethnic cuisines, including Korean barbecue, Vietnamese pho, Chinese dim sum, Mexican taqueria, Ethiopian injera, Thai, Burmese, Peruvian, Uzbeki, and dozens of others. The corridor developed from the late 1970s onward as successive waves of immigration to Atlanta — primarily Korean, Vietnamese, and Central American — established food businesses that served their communities and eventually attracted the attention of the broader city. Today Buford Highway is a destination for food tourists from across the country, recognised as one of the most authentic international food strips in the United States. Korean barbecue restaurants are among the most prominent anchors, with multi-room establishments offering tableside coal grills and extensive banchan selections. Vietnamese pho houses, many operated by families who arrived after 1975, serve deeply stocked bone broths that have been simmering since early morning. Weekend dim sum at the area's established Chinese restaurants fills quickly, drawing multigenerational Atlanta families from across the metro. The corridor requires a car or rideshare, as the spread-out nature of the strip does not lend itself to walking between restaurants.
