Dover International Speedway

Dover International Speedway, known as The Monster Mile, is a one-mile concrete oval race track on North DuPont Highway in Dover, Delaware. The facility hosts two major NASCAR Cup Series events annually — typically in spring (May) and fall (October) — and is Delaware's largest sporting venue, with grandstand capacity of approximately 50,000 seats and extensive infield camping for tens of thousands more. The track's steeply banked 24-degree concrete turns produce high speeds and close wheel-to-wheel racing that place Dover among the most technically demanding venues on the NASCAR circuit.

The Monster Mile name derives from Miles the Monster — a 46-foot concrete statue at the speedway's main entrance depicting a grey monster holding a race car that has become one of NASCAR's most recognizable venue symbols. On race weekends the Dover campus becomes a large-scale festival with fan zones, driver meet-and-greet appearances, sponsor activations, and infield concerts. The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series typically supports the Cup events, providing a full day of on-track competition. The grandstands rise steeply from the racing surface, providing excellent sightlines from most seat positions around the oval, and the concrete surface produces a distinctive tire-squeal sound audible throughout the venue.

Beyond race weekends, the speedway offers self-guided walking tours on non-event weekdays at a modest fee, including track-level access, a view of the infield, and close inspection of the Miles the Monster statue. Group tours and charter events can be arranged by appointment with the speedway office. Dover is located in central Delaware, accessible via US-13 (DuPont Highway), approximately 75 miles south of Philadelphia. Infield camping packages — available with or without hookups — are among the most immersive NASCAR venue experiences available, combining direct paddock access with the full race weekend festival atmosphere.
