Tavernetta

Tavernetta is one of Denver's most celebrated Italian restaurants, occupying a prime location adjacent to Denver Union Station in the Lower Downtown neighborhood. The restaurant was conceived by the team behind Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder and brought to Denver as a more accessible expression of the same northern Italian philosophy — exceptional handcrafted pasta, disciplined Italian wine curation, and hospitality that earned a James Beard Award nomination for Outstanding Service.

The pasta program is the kitchen's defining achievement. House-made tagliatelle bolognese ($32) is the signature dish — a slow-cooked meat ragu that adheres to Bologna tradition while incorporating Colorado-raised beef. Colorado lamb ragù pasta ($34) shifts the protein to local mountain-raised lamb, producing a richer, gamier composition that has become equally emblematic of the menu. Beef carpaccio ($22) serves as an elegant opener that reflects the Italian antipasto tradition without unnecessary elaboration.

The dining room is refined and convivial in equal measure, with warm lighting, an open kitchen view, and the buzz of a restaurant that consistently operates at full capacity.
