Glasgow - Scotland's Biggest City
Glasgow is Scotland's largest and most vibrant city, just 50 minutes by frequent train from Edinburgh. An excellent day trip includes the world-class Kelvingrove Art Gallery (free), the Burrell Collection (free), the West End's Ashton Lane and Byres Road, Glasgow Cathedral and Necropolis, and the Merchant City for lunch and coffee. Isle of Arran - Scotland in Miniature
The Isle of Arran is often called 'Scotland in miniature' because it contains Highland mountains (Goat Fell, 874m), Lowland farmland, beautiful coastal scenery, whisky (Arran Distillery), and Viking heritage all within one island. The ferry from Ardrossan takes 55 minutes to Brodick, and the A841 circular road goes around the whole island in 56 miles - doable in a day by bike or car.
