Thames RIB Experience

The Thames RIB Experience is a high-speed rigid inflatable boat (RIB) ride departing from Boarding Gate Two on Victoria Embankment, near Waterloo Bridge in central London. No special fitness or skill is required — passengers simply need to be able to climb aboard and hold on, though the operator sets a minimum age of 3 years and advises caution for pregnant passengers or those with back or neck problems. Life jackets and spray-proof jackets are supplied and worn throughout; passengers should bring their own warm layers underneath, as the open boat and river spray can be cold even in summer. The operator, Thames RIB Experience, has run passenger boat trips on the tidal Thames for over a decade and works under Port of London Authority licensing, with qualified skippers holding commercial boatmasters' licences. Before departure, all passengers receive a safety briefing covering life-jacket use, brace positions for high-speed turns, and the crew's procedure for man-overboard recovery, since the RIB can reach speeds of up to 35 knots on the open river stretch near the O2 Arena. Trips run year-round in most weather, though the operator may delay or cancel departures in strong winds, thick fog, or unusually high river flow, offering rescheduling in those cases. The most comfortable riding conditions, with the best visibility of skyline landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, Tower Bridge and the O2, fall between May and September, though winter departures give clearer views of illuminated buildings after dark. The 50-minute round trip is a fixed-route sightseeing thrill ride rather than an activity requiring prior boating experience.
