Tepuka Private Island Experience

The Tepuka Private Island Experience centres on Tepuka Islet, a small coral island within the Funafuti Conservation Area — a protected marine zone on the western side of the Funafuti Atoll established in 1999 to preserve the atoll's reef and lagoon ecosystems. The islet is uninhabited, accessible only by boat, and within conservation area boundaries that restrict motorised activity and fishing, resulting in water clarity and reef health that are exceptional relative to more accessible areas of the lagoon.

The experience is arranged on a reservation basis and accepts only one group per day, maintaining exclusivity and minimising environmental impact on the protected site. Guest parties depart from Funafuti's main shore by boat — typically a journey of thirty to fifty minutes depending on sea conditions — arriving at an islet fringed with white coral sand, native palms, and intact reef structure that requires pristine water conditions to support. The shallow reef flat surrounding Tepuka hosts extensive coral gardens, diverse reef fish populations, and occasional sea turtle sightings.

On arrival, a private snorkeling guide accompanies the group into the water, identifying species and explaining the ecology of the conservation area. Gourmet picnic meals are prepared to order before departure — typically fresh fish, tropical fruit, rice dishes, and locally made sweets — and served in a beachside setting. Photography service is available on request, allowing guests to document the snorkeling experience without managing camera equipment themselves in the water.

The combination of a protected reef system, total group exclusivity, and the remoteness of Tuvalu's position in the central Pacific makes this experience genuinely unusual. The experience is bookable through the Funafuti Lagoon Hotel and is suited to couples, small families, and groups of up to eight. Environmental briefings are provided during the boat transit through the conservation area.
