Uğurlu Beach (Gökçeada)

Uğurlu Beach is a remote, largely undeveloped beach on the northern coast of Gökçeada (Imbros), the largest Aegean island belonging to Turkey and administratively part of Çanakkale Province. The beach lies adjacent to Uğurlu village (also known by its Greek name Agridia), one of several old stone villages on the island that preserves the architecture and atmosphere of Gökçeada's former Greek-speaking population, who left in large numbers following 20th-century population exchanges. Reaching the beach requires the Gestaş ferry from Çanakkale port to Gökçeada (approximately two hours) and then a 20-kilometre drive across the island's interior along winding, partly unpaved roads.

The beach itself is a natural arc of coarse sand and pebble approximately 600–800 metres long, backed by low dunes and wild scrubland. The Aegean water here is clear and unpolluted, with a deep blue colour reflecting the island's distance from the mainland and absence of river sediment. Wave action is moderate to strong depending on wind direction, as the northern coast is more exposed to open sea conditions than the sheltered southern bays. The combination of remoteness, natural character, and the nearby Uğurlu village gives the beach an atmosphere found less frequently on the Turkish Aegean mainland coast.

A small camping area operates in season near the beach, and Uğurlu village offers basic supplies, a handful of traditional houses converted to pensions, and the characteristic domed stone structures and narrow lanes of Gökçeada's heritage villages. The beach suits visitors seeking solitude, nature, and island exploration rather than resort infrastructure. Birdwatching is rewarding in the scrubland behind the beach, and the island's interior is designated as a protected area supporting diverse flora.
