Ajia Hotel occupies a beautifully restored 19th-century wooden mansion — a yali — on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus in the Kanlica neighborhood of Beykoz district, Istanbul, Turkey. Yali were historically the summer residences of Ottoman aristocracy and wealthy merchants, built directly on the water's edge; Ajia's example is among the finest surviving properties of this type operating as a hotel. The hotel's 16 rooms are individually decorated with period-appropriate Turkish antiques, handmade kilims, vintage mirror frames, and carved wooden headboards, creating an atmosphere of intimate historical charm that larger properties cannot replicate.
