Iğdır is a small province in far-eastern Turkey, cradled in the broad Ararat Plain at Turkey's lowest elevation east of the Euphrates. The province sits at a dramatic convergence of Armenian, Kurdish, Azerbaijani, and Turkish cultures, with the snow-capped twin peaks of Mount Ararat (Ağrı Dağı) dominating the skyline and providing one of the most recognisable silhouettes in the world.
Iğdır has a semi-arid continental climate strongly influenced by its position in the Ararat Plain — one of Turkey's lowest and warmest eastern valleys. Summers (June–August) are hot and dry, with temperatures frequently exceeding 38–42°C. Winters (December–February) are cold and snowy, with temperatures dropping to −10 to −20°C and mountain passes closing. Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are the most pleasant seasons, with mild temperatures of 10–25°C, clear skies, and seasonal blooms or pomegranate harvests.
