Aydın is a province and city in Turkey's Aegean region, nestled in the fertile Büyük Menderes (Meander) River valley. The city of Aydın — sometimes called the 'fig capital of the world' — sits amid orchards producing the globally prized Söke and Çakıllı dried figs, alongside olives and cotton. The province is an extraordinary concentration of ancient Greek and Roman cities: Aphrodisias (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Priene, Miletus, Didyma, Magnesia on the Meander, Alabanda, Nysa, and the ancient ruins of Tralleis within the modern city itself.
