Söke's weekly Wednesday open-air market is a major agricultural market for the Büyük Menderes valley, drawing farmers, smallholders, and traders from across the surrounding plain. Stalls stretch across the town's market square with mounds of seasonal fruit and vegetables, olives pressed from local groves, excellent dried figs from nearby farms (often at better prices than Aydın city), local white cheese, honey, dried herbs, and cotton goods. Inexpensive clothing, shoes, and household items fill the outer lanes. The market is entirely for local residents and operates at local prices with no tourist inflation. Söke is also a good base for day trips to Priene, Miletus, and Didyma, making a Wednesday visit a natural starting point before heading to the ruins.
