The Thursday market in Karacasu is an authentic rural Aegean bazaar held in the small inland town nearest to Aphrodisias. Villagers from the surrounding Maeander valley hills bring local honey (including the prized Teke honey from the highland beehives), freshly made village cheese (köy peyniri), dried herbs, seasonal vegetables, walnuts, and modest handmade goods. The market has no tourist pretension whatsoever: this is where local farmers sell and locals shop. Prices are among the lowest in the province. Visiting on a Thursday before or after Aphrodisias — located just 15 km away — is a perfect combination. Carry cash, go early for the best selection, and be ready for a warm, curious welcome from stallholders unused to foreign visitors.
