Aydın Covered Bazaar (Kapalı Çarşı)

Aydın's historic covered bazaar is the commercial heart of the city and the best place in the province to buy its most famous product: kuru incir, the sun-dried figs that have made the region famous worldwide. Food merchants stack pyramids of golden dried figs in grades from everyday to premium export quality, alongside bottles of Aegean olive oil, jars of amber Teke honey from the inland hills, loose spices, dried herbs, nuts, and olives. Textile stalls sell towels, linens, and clothing, while small hardware workshops serve the local population. Prices are fixed for residents and very low by tourist standards; there is no expectation of bargaining at the food stalls. The bazaar is entirely genuine, serving local shoppers rather than the tourist trade, and its covered lanes offer a cool refuge from the Aegean summer heat.
