Yeşilırmak Riverfront Promenade

The Yeşilırmak Riverfront Promenade is Amasya's most celebrated free experience, running along the south bank of the Yeşilırmak river through the historic core of the city. The walk connects the Sultan Bayezid II Külliye at the western end with the base of the Pontic rock-tomb steps at the eastern end, a distance of roughly 700 metres that takes about 15 minutes at a gentle pace. During daylight hours the promenade frames excellent views of the Yalıboyu Ottoman mansion row on the north bank and the Mount Harşena cliff face behind, with the carved Pontic tomb facades visible as dark rectangles high on the limestone wall. The path is lined with riverside cafés, tea gardens, and simple restaurants that draw a local crowd throughout the day. The promenade reaches its peak atmosphere in the summer evenings, after 20:00, when the entire north-bank facade — Ottoman mansions, cliff face, and the 21 Pontic royal tomb chambers — is bathed in amber and orange floodlighting that reflects in the moving water below. The effect is one of the most visually memorable urban nightscapes in northern Turkey, and the walk has no entrance fee. Street vendors, ice cream sellers, and families gather along the riverside benches in warm weather, giving the promenade an authentic social character that persists long after the tourist sites have closed. The walk is flat and suitable for all mobility levels, and the riverside cafés provide natural rest points. An evening circuit from the Bayezid Mosque to the rock-tomb steps and back takes under 45 minutes.
