Phuket Photography Guide 2025
Capture stunning photos with our guide to the best photography spots in Phuket.
Phuket is Thailand's largest island and most visited province, set in the warm Andaman Sea off the west coast of the Thai-Malay Peninsula. Renowned for its powdery white-sand beaches, crystalline turquoise waters, vibrant nightlife, and rich Sino-Portuguese cultural heritage, Phuket draws millions of visitors each year. From the buzzing strip of Patong Beach to the serene shores of Nai Harn, the colonial shophouses of Phuket Old Town to the towering white marble Big Buddha statue, the island offers something for every traveller.
Top 10 Photo Spots
The most photogenic locations in Phuket.
Big Buddha at Sunrise
The 45-metre white marble Buddha on Nakkerd Hills is stunning at any time but transforms at sunrise into a glowing silhouette above the morning mist. Arrive 30 minutes before sunrise for the best light. The surrounding area offers foreground elements — prayer flags, smaller bronze Buddhas, lotus flowers.
Promthep Cape Sunset
Phuket's most photographed sunset location. The rocky headland at the island's southernmost point frames the sun setting over a wide expanse of the Andaman Sea. The elevated viewpoint allows wide panoramas with sea to the left, right, and centre.
Old Phuket Town – Sino-Portuguese Streets
Phuket Town's heritage district offers some of Thailand's most photogenic architecture — pastel-painted shophouses with ornate plasterwork, Chinese lanterns, window shutters, and colourful painted murals. Thalang Road, Dibuk Road, Soi Rommanee, and Krabi Road are particularly rich.
Phang Nga Bay – Karst Limestone Islands
One of Thailand's most dramatic landscapes — limestone karst towers rise vertically from the emerald sea, draped in jungle. James Bond Island (Ko Tapu), Ko Panyi floating village, and the sea caves with their reflections are world-class photography subjects. Day tours from Phuket reach the bay in 1 hour.
Rang Hill (Khao Rang) Viewpoint
The hilltop park above Phuket Town offers sweeping views over the city, east coast, and distant hills. Less touristy than other viewpoints, it has a naturally local atmosphere especially in the early morning when joggers and families fill the paths.
Wat Chalong at Golden Hour
Phuket's most important temple complex is highly photogenic, with multiple ornate chedis (stupas), intricate painted murals, colourful flags, and worshippers lighting incense and firecrackers. The tall main pagoda glows beautifully in evening light.
Patong Beach at Dusk (Blue Hour)
While Patong Beach can look overcrowded in daylight, the 15-minute blue hour after sunset transforms it into a beautiful, moody landscape — the resort lights reflect on the wet sand, the sky is deep blue-purple, and the beach is much less crowded. Long exposures smooth the sea into silk.
Phi Phi Viewpoint
The iconic viewpoint above Ko Phi Phi Don, reached by a 20-minute steep climb from the village, overlooks the twin bays of Tonsai Bay and Loh Dalam Bay — one of the world's most photographed tropical views. The narrow isthmus between two turquoise bays is extraordinary.
Sunday Walking Street Market (Thalang Road)
Every Sunday evening, Thalang Road transforms into a colourful outdoor market filled with food stalls, lanterns, local crafts, and street performers. The combination of vintage shophouse architecture, warm lantern light, and bustling local activity makes it an excellent street photography environment.
Nai Harn Lake and Beach Reflection
The freshwater lake behind Nai Harn Beach perfectly mirrors the surrounding hills, casuarina trees, and early-morning sky. Combined with the beautiful beach and Royal Yacht Club in the background, this area offers multiple composition options.
