Olduvai Gorge, within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, is one of the most important palaeontological sites on Earth. The museum at the gorge explains the extraordinary discovery of some of humanity's oldest ancestors, including Homo habilis and Paranthropus boisei, by Louis and Mary Leakey. Guided walks down into the gorge are available.
