Mount Meru Summit Climb
Tanzania's second highest peak at 4,565m is a serious mountaineering challenge that rewards with extraordinary views of Kilimanjaro at sunrise from the summit, incredible wildlife on the lower slopes, and a sense of real achievement. The four-day ascent via the Socialist Peak route is the only permitted route to the summit. An armed ranger escort is mandatory throughout due to buffalo on the lower slopes.
Best season: June–February

2
Kilimanjaro Climb
Africa's highest peak and one of the Seven Summits — the climb to 5,895m Uhuru Peak is achievable without technical mountaineering skills on the standard walking routes. The Lemosho route is the most scenic and has the best acclimatisation profile. Arusha is the primary logistics hub for Kilimanjaro expeditions.
Best season: January–February and June–October

3
Hot Air Balloon Safari (Serengeti)
Drift silently over the Serengeti plains at dawn in a hot air balloon, watching lions, elephants, and vast herds of wildebeest from above. The 60–90 minute flight ends with a champagne breakfast in the bush. One of Africa's most iconic luxury adventures, bookable through Arusha operators.
Best season: Year-round; migration (July–September) adds river crossing views

4
Mountain Biking — Mount Meru Foothills
Guided mountain biking tours through the coffee farms, avocado plantations, and highland villages on the foothills of Mount Meru. Routes range from leisurely farm tracks to challenging singletrack descents. The scenery combining mountain views with lush farmland is spectacular.
Best season: June–October (dry tracks)

5
Walking Safari — Arusha National Park
One of Tanzania's rare opportunities to walk in a national park with genuine big game. An armed ranger leads groups through Arusha National Park on foot, tracking wildlife, learning about medicinal plants, reading animal spoor, and experiencing the bush at a human pace rather than from a vehicle. Encounters with buffalo and giraffe on foot are unforgettable.
Best season: Year-round

6
Canoe Safari — Momella Lakes
Paddle across the alkaline Momella Lakes in traditional dugout-style canoes, approaching hippos, flamingos, and waterfowl at water level. Guides explain lake ecology and point out wildlife that vehicles cannot reach. A unique adventure available only at Arusha National Park in the northern circuit.
Best season: Year-round; flamingos peak November–April

7
Rock Climbing — Arusha Area Crags
Several granite and volcanic rock faces within and around the Arusha National Park area offer sport climbing and bouldering routes. Local operators provide equipment, instruction, and guided climbing on established routes.
