Pamir Lodge Khorog

Pamir Lodge occupies a position on Lenin Street in Khorog, the capital of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast, at roughly 2,200 metres elevation in the Panj River valley. The lodge sits close to the river bank where the Panj divides Tajikistan from Afghanistan, a setting that makes the Afghan Wakhan mountains a constant backdrop from the garden and upper rooms. The GBAO Botanical Garden — among the highest botanical gardens in the world — is a short walk away, and the town bazaar with its mix of Pamiri, Afghan, and Chinese goods is reachable in under ten minutes.

The building is constructed in a style that references Pamiri vernacular architecture: heavy timbers, stone masonry elements, and a garden courtyard that feels appropriate to the mountain setting while offering a level of polish considerably above other Khorog options. The interior combines warm wood panelling with quality bedding, private en-suite bathrooms with reliable hot water, and double-glazed windows that manage night temperatures which can drop sharply even in summer at this altitude.

Room types include standard doubles and larger suites; all face either the garden or have partial river views. The restaurant serves a varied menu built around Pamiri and Tajik cuisine — fresh Gunt River trout (when available), lamb plov, apricot-based sauces, and seasonal salads — alongside a competent breakfast with eggs, local honey, and fresh bread. A garden area with seating is popular for evening meals during the warm months.
