Homestay Safo sits in a traditional Pamiri house on Gorbachev Street in Khorog, the capital of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO) and the main hub on the Pamir Highway. The town rests at roughly 2,200 metres elevation at the confluence of the Panj and Gunt rivers, with the Afghan Wakhan range visible across the valley from many parts of town. The homestay is within ten minutes' walk of the GBAO Botanical Garden — one of the world's highest botanical gardens — and a short stroll from the small market where local families shop for provisions.

The property is a working family home built in the traditional Pamiri style, featuring the distinctive chid roof with its five-ringed skylight (representing earth, water, fire, air, and plants) that provides natural light and ventilation. Rooms are simply furnished with comfortable beds, thick blankets essential for cool mountain nights even in summer, and shared bathrooms with hot showers.

Meals are the real attraction. The host family prepares generous home-cooked breakfasts and dinners using local ingredients: thick broth with dried apricots, Pamiri bread baked fresh each morning, seasonal vegetables, and dried mulberries from their own trees. Lunch can be arranged on request. The family matriarch typically holds court in the kitchen and welcomes conversation about local Ismaili traditions and life in the Pamirs.

WiFi is available via a local SIM-based router and works adequately for messaging and basic browsing. The hosts are experienced at assisting travellers with onward logistics — shared jeep arrangements to Ishkashim, Murghab, or the Wakhan Corridor, and advice on road conditions on the M41 Pamir Highway.
