Beit Zafran Hotel de Charme occupies an Ottoman-era mansion in the Bab Touma district, the historic Christian quarter of Damascus's Old City. The property stands roughly 300 metres from the Straight Street and a ten-minute walk from the Umayyad Mosque, within a neighbourhood characterised by convent churches, carved-stone facades, and traditional café terraces. The Bab Touma gate itself, one of the historic city's seven remaining original gates, is within easy walking distance, and the French Cultural Institute and Armenian quarter lie nearby.

The mansion's fabric dates to the 18th and 19th centuries and has undergone careful restoration that preserves original materials wherever possible. Painted ajami wooden ceilings — a craft tradition particular to the Levant, involving pigment-on-gesso panels applied to wooden frames — feature in the reception salon and principal suites. Mother-of-pearl inlay work appears on built-in wooden furniture and decorative panels; ablaq geometric marble mosaic paves the central courtyard around a traditional octagonal stone fountain. The ensemble represents high-quality Damascene decorative arts largely unchanged from the late Ottoman period.

The hotel contains a small number of suites and superior rooms, each individually furnished with period-appropriate antiques and locally woven textiles. Modern conveniences include air conditioning, free WiFi, and ensuite bathrooms with contemporary plumbing. The intimate scale — fewer than 15 rooms — enables genuinely personalised service, and the host-to-guest ratio is notably higher than in larger heritage properties.

Dining takes place in the courtyard and in an interior salon; the menu offers a full Syrian breakfast included in room rates and evening Levantine dishes prepared from fresh produce sourced that morning. Guests are typically received on arrival with rose-water juice and a small plate of Syrian sweets. Breakfast seatings in the courtyard are particularly pleasant in spring and early autumn when outdoor temperatures are comfortable through mid-morning.
