A forested loop over the Zürichberg ridge on the city's eastern edge, passing the Fluntern district and the Dolder area on level, well-marked paths used by city runners and walkers.
The Zürichberg is the wooded hill that forms the eastern backdrop of the city. From the tram terminus at Zoo (line 6) a network of forest paths leads along the ridge toward the Dolder district and the Adlisberg. A loop of around eight kilometres can be built from these paths on mostly level, well-surfaced forest tracks, with a few short climbs. The woodland is popular with local walkers and runners, and has several public fireplaces and playgrounds. Clearings on the western slope open views down over the city to Lake Zürich and, on clear days, to the Alps. The tram connection makes the route a convenient short outing without any need for a car, and it is easily shortened or extended using the many junctions. Paths are signposted with the standard yellow Swiss hiking markers.
