The Bachtel (1,115 m) rises above the Zürich Oberland near Hinwil and Wald and is among the best viewpoints in the canton, with a transmission tower and an adjacent lookout. Paths climb from Wald ZH or Hinwil through forest and pasture to the summit, where a mountain restaurant serves hikers. On clear days the view includes the Glarus Alps, the Säntis and Lake Zürich. The ascent is moderate with a few steeper stretches, and the paths are marked as standard yellow hiking trails. The area also receives snow in many winters, when the paths can be used with snowshoes or for sledging, and conditions should be checked locally.
