Geneva is a cosmopolitan French-speaking city at the southwestern tip of Lake Geneva, framed by the Alps and the Jura. Known for the Jet d'Eau, a compact medieval Old Town, Calvin's Reformation, the Red Cross and the United Nations, it is also a world capital of watchmaking, banking and science with CERN on its doorstep. Despite its high prices, Geneva rewards visitors with lake swimming, museums, fondue and easy day trips to France and the Alps.
Geneva's nightlife is concentrated in four areas: the Pâquis (bars, pubs and late kebabs between Cornavin and the lake), Plainpalais and the Old Town (cocktail clubs and student bars), Carouge (live music and terraces) and the lakefront in summer. International professionals, UN staff and students make it cosmopolitan but expensive: a beer costs CHF 6-9 (~$8-11) and a cocktail CHF 16-24 (~$20-30). The city is safe at night, trams and night buses run late, and most clubs only get going after 11 PM.

Nightlife tips
Stay safe and have fun.
Clubs open at 11 PM and fill after midnight; arriving earlier means paying drink prices for an empty dance floor.
Night buses (Noctambus) and trams run late on weekends; check the TPG app or tpg.ch for the Noctambus timetable.
Bring photo ID; clubs enforce age limits (18) and may check passports.
Carry cash and a debit card; Swiss bars accept both, and tipping is rounding up.
Pâquis streets around Rue de Berne are busy late but pick-pockets operate near Cornavin; keep phones and wallets in front pockets.
Taxis are expensive (a city ride is CHF 20-35, ~$25-44); use the Uber app or tpg.ch/noctambus for cheaper late transport.
