Playa de las Teresitas de Melilla

Playa de las Teresitas de Melilla is a sandy beach located on the northern coast of Melilla, the Spanish autonomous city on the north coast of Africa, approximately 3 kilometres from the city centre. The beach stretches for around 300 metres in a broad, open arc facing north, receiving light swells from the Mediterranean and occasional stronger winds when northern weather systems move through. The sand is light-coloured and moderately coarse, remaining pleasant underfoot and noticeably cooler than the rocky shore alternatives in the area. The water colour shifts from turquoise at the shallows to a deeper blue offshore, and clarity is generally good in calm conditions.

The beach is open and exposed compared to the more sheltered coves further along the coast, which means it occasionally experiences a manageable shore break. This exposure also makes the beach more wind-prone than Melilla's southern beaches, particularly during the afternoon sea breeze that builds from mid-morning in summer. The northern orientation means the beach receives full sun from morning, with shade only available under personal sun shelters brought by visitors.

Facilities at this beach are modest. Parking is available nearby, and the beach is accessible from the road without significant obstacles. There is no dedicated lifeguard presence outside peak summer months, and food and amenity options in the immediate vicinity are limited compared to the beaches adjacent to the city centre. Visitors typically arrive self-sufficient with food, drinks, and sun protection.

The beach draws a local Melilla crowd — families and residents seeking a quieter alternative to the more central beaches — rather than visiting tourists. The surrounding coastal scenery, with views of the open Mediterranean and the rocky headlands to the east, is pleasant and uncluttered. Taxi service from the city centre costs approximately €7–€9 for the 10-minute ride, or the beach can be reached on foot in around 30 minutes along the coastal road. The beach is distinct from the more famous Playa de las Teresitas in Tenerife; the shared name reflects a common naming tradition in Spanish coastal towns rather than any geographical connection.
