Haro is the historic center of Rioja wine production, and its Barrio de la Estación is a cluster of century-old bodegas built directly beside the railway line that once carried Rioja wine to the rest of Spain and France. Producers like López de Heredia, CVNE and Bodegas Bilbainas still operate from the same stone cellars and cobwebbed ageing rooms their founders built in the 1870s-1890s. A day here is really a day of contrasts between different house styles, since several bodegas sit within a few minutes' walk of each other rather than being spread across the countryside.
