Hostal dos Reis Católicos (budget wing) is a pilgrim-focused hostal and albergue on Rúa das Carretas in Santiago de Compostela's old quarter, within a three-minute walk of the Cathedral de Santiago and the Praza do Obradoiro. The property shares its name — but not its premises — with the famous 5-star Parador de Santiago de Compostela on the far side of the plaza, a royal hospital founded in 1499 by the Catholic Monarchs; this budget hostal is an entirely separate, independent establishment that caters to the city's large and year-round pilgrim population.

The building occupies a narrow stone-fronted townhouse typical of the old city's residential streets. Accommodation is divided between dormitory-style bunk beds and modest private rooms; bathrooms are predominantly shared, with communal showers per floor. Dorm beds come with individual lockers. The aesthetic throughout is plain and functional — the design serves travellers who have been walking for weeks and value a hot shower, a safe bed, and a dry room over interior design or luxury. Private rooms are small but offer greater quiet and privacy than dorms.

Key communal facilities include a shared kitchen where guests can prepare their own meals, luggage storage available from early morning for those arriving before check-in, and laundry machines with drying facilities. Free WiFi covers the common areas. The hostal offers on-site pilgrim credential stamping — the sello is valid for the Compostela passport and accepted by the Cathedral's Pilgrim Office when requesting the Compostela certificate. There is no restaurant, bar, or room service.

The international clientele is predominantly Camino walkers completing the Camino Francés, Camino Portugués, or Camino Finisterre. Staff are accustomed to communicating across language barriers and understand the Camino bureaucracy around credentials and the Pilgrim Office queue. The location on Rúa das Carretas means the Cathedral's main west façade, the Pilgrim Office, and the city's main market at Mercado de Abastos are all within easy walking distance.
