Sagrada Família — Nativity Facade

The Nativity Facade is the eastern face of the Sagrada Família basilica, designed and largely completed under Antoni Gaudí himself before his death in 1926, and it faces the rising sun across Plaça de Gaudí and its reflecting pond. The frame favors a wide shot from across the small park, using the pond as a foreground element and reflection, or a tighter composition isolating the dense, organic stone carving of the Tree of Life and the nativity scene above the three doorways. Morning light between roughly 9 and 10AM strikes the east-facing facade directly, raking across the carved figures and picking out depth in the stonework that flattens under midday sun; by early afternoon the facade falls into its own shadow as the sun swings west, making the Passion facade on the opposite side the better subject instead. Spring and autumn typically deliver the clearest skies for a strong blue backdrop behind the towers, while summer haze and winter cloud cover mute contrast. The plaza and pond area draws heavy crowds year-round, particularly from mid-morning once tour groups arrive; arriving at opening hours or shooting from the far side of the pond helps avoid people crossing the frame. There is no fee to photograph the exterior from the public plaza, though entry to the basilica interior requires a paid, timed ticket booked in advance, and tripods are generally prohibited inside. Tripods on the plaza itself are legal but should be set up away from the main walking paths, as the area gets busy with pedestrians and street performers. Drone flight over the basilica is prohibited under Barcelona's no-fly restrictions given its status as a protected monument in dense urban airspace.
