Balearic Islands Photography Guide 2025
Capture stunning photos with our guide to the best photography spots in Balearic Islands.
The Balearic Islands are an archipelago of four main islands — Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera — set in the western Mediterranean off the eastern coast of Spain. Renowned for their crystalline turquoise waters, dramatic limestone mountains, and a stunning array of hidden coves, the islands attract everyone from beach lovers and hikers to world-class clubbers and luxury travelers. Each island has its own distinct character: Mallorca offers the most variety with its Gothic capital Palma, the UNESCO-listed Tramuntana mountains, and a world-class food scene; Menorca is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve celebrated for its prehistoric monuments and pristine wild beaches; Ibiza is globally famous for its nightlife and bohemian spirit; and tiny Formentera offers some of the Mediterranean's most extraordinary beach scenery.
Top 10 Photo Spots
The most photogenic locations in Balearic Islands.
Cathedral La Seu from Parc de la Mar
The reflection of Palma's magnificent Gothic cathedral in the artificial lake of Parc de la Mar is one of the most iconic images of the Balearic Islands. The warm evening light turns the golden stone orange.
Cap de Formentor Lighthouse
The lighthouse at Mallorca's northern tip, perched on soaring cliffs with the sea far below, is spectacular at dawn when the rocks glow pink and mist may linger in the valleys
Deià Village from the hillside
The terracotta rooftops and stone houses of Deià village spilling down the Tramuntana mountainside with the sea below create an iconic Mallorcan scene
Es Vedrà at sunset
The mysterious rock pinnacle of Es Vedrà rises from the sea off southwest Ibiza, silhouetted dramatically against the orange sunset sky from the Mirador des Savinar viewpoint
Cala Macarella, Menorca
The turquoise water, white sand, and pine-clad cliffs of this pristine Menorcan cove create a perfect composition. Morning light illuminates the water from the east.
Ses Salines flamingos, Ibiza
The pink flamingos wading in the shallow salt flats of Ses Salines natural park, with the sea and mountains in the background, make for extraordinary wildlife photography
Dalt Vila from the harbor, Ibiza
The illuminated UNESCO old city of Ibiza rising behind the marina at blue hour (30 minutes after sunset) creates a magical cityscape
Illetes, Formentera
Unlike most beach photography where midday is too harsh, the extraordinary water clarity at Formentera's Illetes means the turquoise-to-deep-blue gradient in the water is most dramatic with overhead sun
Torrent de Pareis gorge, Sa Calobra
The narrow, cathedral-like gorge where the Torrent de Pareis meets the sea creates dramatic vertical light beams at midday when the sun is directly overhead

Photography Tips
Get better shots in Balearic Islands.
A polarizing filter is essential for Mediterranean water photography - it eliminates surface glare and reveals the turquoise and blue water gradients
Golden hour comes late in summer (8-9:30PM) due to Spain's unusual time zone (on CET despite geographical alignment with the UK)
Drone photography is restricted around beaches and natural parks; check regulations and obtain permits
The Tramuntana mountain road (Ma-10) offers dozens of pullouts with spectacular sea and mountain views
For beach sunrise photography, you'll often have coves to yourself before 9AM even in peak summer
Photography Etiquette
Respect local customs while capturing memories.
Always ask permission before photographing people, especially women. Offer to show them the photo.
Never photograph military installations, government buildings, airports, or security checkpoints.
Some religious sites prohibit photography or require fees. Always check before shooting.
Be discrete with expensive camera gear in crowded areas. Don't obstruct traffic or pathways for photos.
